Karma Spa: A Healing Brand is Born

karma kandara spa pavilions

Certified organic therapies, freshly brewed kelp rituals, teenager experiences, yoga to the sound of Café del Mar and ‘Martini & Manicure’ hedonistic getaways - Karma Spas in Bali aspires to present the next generation in holistic travel and spa culture.

Newly opened in Bali, Karma Spas have created treatments that are more like soulful encounters than your average rubdown. The Karma Bodyworkers are trained by local healers and have attained Level 2 Reiki initiation. All undergo a 12-month master program of study with masters in Chinese medicine & health, yoga, nutrition & meditation.

Karma Spa at Karma Kandara is a cluster of cliff hanging Spa Shacks overlooking the Indian ocean, as seen in the photo above. The infrared, glass-walled sauna built on the edge of the cliff makes the ultimate hangover cure! Come sundown, core strength yoga sessions are offered at the roof top Temple Lounge. Alternatively, guests can splurge on world-class oxygen facials (allegedly, the same treatments Madonna & Justin Timberlake take prior to performances).

In keeping with its laid-back ‘Bali meets Mykonos’ atmosphere, you can drift and dream during the epic ‘Karma Rubdown’, Karma’s signature massage curative bestowed in a sublime sea-facing bale. More sumptuous offerings include Himalayan Crystal Salt Scrubs (conducted in a white stone steam temple room), Rose Quartz Crystal Facials, and a Jade Stone Chi Massage. For deeper healing, try Reiki delivered by a Balinese healer or regenerate in a warm saltwater sanctuary under a star-filled sky.

A second Karma Spa, located within the cool lush grounds of Karma Resorts Jimbaran, opened in July. This spa is more affordable chic. Interiors feature glossy black timber floors, flowing cream fabrics with Jade green and charcoal furnishings. Treatments include a bamboo stick seaweed facial, thermal back therapies and the unique hot oil blue glass massage delivered with a scrub made from wakame, sea salt, clay & cherry blossoms. If you are seeking longer spa time, there are half-day Japanese and Balinese bathing rituals, bestowed in an outdoor bathing area flanked by deep green bamboo.

“Karma Spas represents the entire wellness sector of Karma Resorts worldwide,” says John Spence, Chairman of Karma Resorts. “We combine all that one would expect to find at a 5 star Asian spa, along with many things one would not; such as health and fitness programs led by international sports people, star make-up artists to celebrity healers. Our focus is to deliver holistic and transformative experiences to our guests.”

Retreats are integral to Karma Spas. These comprise celebrity fitness & yoga expert-led programs to bespoke experiences. Popular are on-going ‘Martini & Manicure Retreats’ tailored to those who seek a getaway that is both healthy and decadent. Sleep in luxurious pool villas and experience lush spa therapies, sculpting work-out sessions, rejuvenating juices, combined with in-villa martini spa nights and pure pampering. Yoga sessions are held at 11am, allowing for sleep-ins and there is plenty of time to relax, shop and experience the beauty of Bali.

Karma’s commitment to local and sustainable ingredients is revealed through a boutique collection of limited edition organic spa products. Their live kelp ritual treatments, for instance, are made from fresh kelp seaweed farmed from Kandara’s shores & blended on site. Most significantly, by 2010, every Karma Spa aims to be a mostly chemical-free environment inclusive of organic linens & uniforms, amenities and cleaning fluids.

This is not just about spa,

This is not just about spa, it's about karma and techniques for directing energy. Surprisingly I found a lot of similarities with meditation techniques at church of Shambhala. People do respond great to holistic healing, contemplation and meditation.
