Just back form a short stay at Villa Devatas. This was our first trip to the property and we were very pleased to discover this relatively unknown gem.
Located in the Tabanan area of southwest Bali, Villa Devatas is directly inland from Pereranan Beach, near Canggu. The villa is situated on about a hectare (?) of land and is fronted on its length with a tributary of the Ayung River. The location is about a 20-30 minute drive to Seminyak and about 10 minutes away from Canggu (to the East) or Echo Beach (to the West). The location is just a bit outside the normal villa rental area (only slightly) but the property is fully appointed and there is no need to leave the property to find things to do. It's quiet and well-suited for a bit of relaxation.
Villa Devatas includes five bedrooms. The master suite is a separate two-storey villa located inside of a private garden with a pool. Close the gate and you are on your own - complete privacy. The master bath includes a very nice japanese-style tub and two showers, one outside, the other inside the air-conditioned bathroom area. The four guest bedrooms are grouped together in a pavilion on the opposite end of the property. All four bedrooms have equal size and facilities. Each has a king sized bed, a full bath with indoor and outdoor showers and a large bath tub (big enough for two!). Each bedroom also has access to a private patio with a comfortable day bed. They've thought of everything here, from room safes, to sarongs, to umbrellas. Bathroom amenities are from the Bvlgari collection.
The villa's common facilities are well thought-out and complete. The combined living and dining area is in a large building overlooking the pool. Both of these are open (non-air conditioned) but there are fans and it is comfortable. The area includes a nice stereo and WiFi access. Going down the stairs from the living area you arrive poolside. The pool is a 20 meter fresh water (chlorinated, unfortunately) pool with an integrated jacuzzi. The pool juts out toward the river, which runs by below. Pool loungers and plenty of party area surround the pool.
The villas's style is traditional Bali modern, but it is done with attention to details and a reserve that avoids both cliche and pretention. The furnishing manage to be both attractive and comfortable. In short: They got it right.
Located on each side of the pool are two pavilions. One holds a gaming area with a nice billiards table and an assortment of games. On the opposite side of the pool is an enclosed, air conditioned media room with an excellent large screen television, DVD player, surround sound and a PlayStation.
Up the hill towards the entrance is a complete spa facility and a gym with weight machine, cross country ski simulator and a rowing machine. Both overlook the river.
The villa is fully staffed and unlike many properties, the staff here actually seems to have been trained! In terms of cost, the property is a bit of a steal when compared to its competitors: Low season rates run US$ 1,250 per night. Peak Season ranges up to US$ 2,000. Unbelievably, they even offer a 1 bedroom rate, which means you can grab the entire property at low season for the bargain price of US$ 550 per night. Food and beverage are catered by the villa staff at cost.
Put it all together and you have first class facilities at fabulous prices. It's honestly one of the best deals we've seen in Bali.
